This is the new tall Chute 31946.  Make sure you are looking at the right unit.

This Chute is for the Auger Spreaders only ( only difference is the attachment kit ) , They also offer a short Chute Auger and that is 31943,  These are used on the new gereration spreaders Western Marauder Both Poly and Stainless, Fisher Tempest Poly and Stainless and the Snowex Renegade both Poly and Stainless.  The Short Chute comes standard with the 1.5 and 2.2 yard spreaders S150A, P150A, S220A, P220A. The Tall Chute comes standard with the S300A, S400A, and S500A. But it is more based off the truck height.

The Short Chute extends 14-3/4" below the truck bed the long chute extends 26-3/4" below the bed.  The Ideal Spinner height is 12-18" above the ground.

This is the complete spinner drive assembly for these spreaders .

This assembly includes the Chute mounting kit 31947, Chute Body kit 31948, Chute Cover kit 31949 ( including labels 31970 ), Chute shutter kit 31961, Motor kit 31692 ( D6887 ), Long shaft kit 31964, bearing kit 31965, Handle kit 99098 / 99099, Attachment kit 31935, Chue Extension 31936 ( 31938, 31928), spinner 94424.

The long chute can be made into a short chute, The extension has to be removed and the spinner shaft replaced or cut down.

The Drag chain spreaders are the same Chute but have a different attachment kit and that can be changed.  The long chain version is 31944, and the Short version is 31942.

Changing Long Chute to Short Configuration
The chute must be separate from the spreader.

1. Remove the ten cap screws from the middle and
top cover (as shown in illustration below), then
remove the covers. Retain the top cover and six
cap screws for reassembly.
2. Remove seventeen carriage bolts from the chute
extension. Set aside nine carriage bolts and
locknuts that will be used later during reassembly.

3. Measure/mark the amount of shaft stick out from
the bearing (on the bottom of the chute). Then
unbolt the shaft from the shaft coupler and loosen
the set screws and remove the shaft and spinner
disc.
4. The shaft will need to be cut down to 5/8" above
the middle hole or a short shaft purchased from
an authorized dealer.
5. Reinstall nine of the carriage bolts into the short
chute configuration. Install the cut shaft into the
bearing with set screws and tighten fasteners
with the correct amount of the shaft stick out as
measured in Step 3.
If a new shaft is purchased, install it so that the
spinner shaft is contacting the motor shaft; then
tighten the set screw.
6. Reinstall the top cover with six cap screws
