Stork's Plows is not a dealer of or an experienced installer of Bonnin snow plows. This information is for your reference only. We will not be able to give much technical assistance in person.

Bonnin snow plows were made by Bonnin Truck Equipment of Orange City, Iowa in the 1970's. They were mounted mainly on early 1970's to early 1980's Ford and Chevy 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. They came in at least two colors: yellow and gray.

Bonnin snow plows featured a mounting system called the Quick Hitch which connected the plow to the receivers with a single lever. It used a hydraulic system for angling called Hydroturn.

Other specifications:
12 gauge moldboard rolled to 15 degree angle
3/8" x 3 x 4 structural angle reinforcing the moldboard
6 reinforcing ribs
3/8" x 6" reversible cutting edge (hard blade)
2" x 11" power angle cylinders
2" x 8" lift cylinder
12V DC under-hood electric hydraulic pump ( DB-00001B from Stone Hydraulics)
Plow lights

Sizes ranged from 7' to 9'. The nine foot model is SP900 or SP-900. The 7' model is SP-9017 or SP9017.

Hydraulic Unit Installation Instructions:

NOTE: Do not handle pump unit by lifting on solenoid coils, as this could bend the valves and cause the unit to malfunction.

  1. Mount hydraulic pump (28) on the fender well in the engine compartment. Allow for easy access to all ports, filter vent, solenoid, etc.
  2. Install all hydraulic lines and fittings as shown in parts diagram. Use a good grade of sealer on all connections. Teflon tape is not recommended. Take care to keep entire system as free from dirt and contaminants as possible. Fill reservoir with automatic transmission fluid, ATF.
  3. Run battery cable (34) from battery terminal on motor, start solenoid direct to positive post on the truck battery. Make sure that the pump is well grounded. Low voltage caused by a poor ground, loose or corroded connections, or a weak battery will drastically affect the operational efficiency of the hydraulic unit.
  4. Install switch and wire harness assy. (35) in the cab at a location easily accessible to the driver. NOTE: the wire harness may contain 6 wires. This pump model requires only 5. Eliminate the green wire.
  5. Plug quick connector of switch wire harness into connector on pump wire harness (35). Make electrical hook ups to pump as indicated on parts diagram.
  6. Attach quick connectors to the cylinders on snow plow.
  7. Operate and bleed system. Refill reservoir.

NOTE: When lift rocker switch is in the down position, it is energizing a solenoid coil and valve. This allows the plow to float freely over uneven surfaces. This switch must be returned to the center position when truck is not running or the energized coil will drain the battery.
